On 28 – 30 October 2014 in Stockholm, the 66th Session of the Nordic Council will be held. The Baltic Assembly delegation will consists of Laine Randjärv, Giedrė Purvaneckienė, Jānis Vucāns and Jānis Reirs.
President of the Baltic Assembly Laine Randjarv addressed the Session of the Nordic Council. She underlined that Session of the Nordic Council is taking place at a truly crucial time when new dangers and old challenges – military conflicts in close and distant neighborhoods, climate change, energy security, Ebola outbreak – seem to be activating almost every day. Baltic parliamentarians are concerned about these challenges. “But most of all we are worried about the ongoing turbulences in Ukraine. Even the final results of the elections are not known yet, we witness developments which hopefully bring democratic processes and normal life back to people,” said Laine Randjarv. She called the Nordic Council to join the support programes of the Baltic Assembly for the EU Eastern Partnership countries.
Laine Radjarv positively assessed cooperation with the Nordic Council which is a unique tool. The Nordic – Baltic parliamentary cooperation should be oriented among other things towards innovation, smart specialisation, research and development. “Let us keep in mind solidarity, responsibility and involvement – the fundamental principles of international cooperation! Let us be smart and creative – be the chess players rather than merely chessmen!” emphasised Laine Randjarv.
